Our experience

Our staff have many years of experience in genomics, bioinformatics, AI and software development.

Founded early in 2021 we are a bioinformatics company with a pedigree in supporting biotechnology companies and academic groups with their genomic and metagenomic R&D projects. We specialise in AI driven genomics and metagenomics. We have developed bespoke data analysis pipelines that we employ, using an expert-driven approach.

We have a particular focus on data mining shotgun metagenome data for novel genes encoding enzymes. Our in-house intelligent annotation system, iDAP, based on the latest deep learning technology, is more able to shed light on the function of genes that are frequently found in the ‘dark matter’ of metagenomes than other technologies. Our state-of-the-art generative AI system, enGEN, is able to design new to nature proteins or improve the functional characteristics of natural proteins..

Senior Team

Prof. Anil Wipat, Managing Director of Insiligence Ltd. has over 30 years of experience in genomics, bioinformatics and software development. He has worked in both academic and industrial collaborations in the areas of biotechnology, bioinformatics, systems biology and synthetic biology. His research spans bioinformatics, synthetic biology and software engineering through to practical molecular microbiology and genomics. He was the co-founder of the successful Interdisciplinary Computing and Complex Biosystems (ICOS) research group and also has extensive experience in bioinformatics training.

Will Dracup, CEO of Insiligence is a serial entrepreneur, having founded and run multiple life science companies. His first company was Nonlinear Dynamics, selling software into the proteomics market which was acquired by Waters, Inc. in 2013. This was followed by Biosignatures, which developed novel diagnostic tests for cancer. More recently, TotalLab offers software products that help customers achieve 21 CFR Part 11/GxP regulatory compliance and deliver cutting-edge 1D and 2D image analysis. Turbinia is developing a novel system to enable the measurement of modified forms of proteins for Host Cell Protein analysis and proteomic biomarker discovery.

Insiligence aids in the mining of marine metagenomes in a UK circumnavigation exercise

Insiligence joins the crew of a boat chartered by Prof. Simon Charnock from Prozomix to circumnavigate the UK collecting metagenomes from the sea. Insiligence is responsible for the long read sequencing and data analysis on the ship as the voyage progresses. Back on dry land we will also be analysing the metagenome data for partners, Prozomix Ltd.
